098 – Tying up at your wharf

To dream anything that you want to dream.
That’s the beauty of the human mind.
To do anything that you want to do.
That is the strength of the human will.
To trust yourself to test your limits.
That is the courage to succeed
. — Bernard Edmonds

Recently I’ve had cause to change my understanding of a relationship. It’s not that trust has entirely walked out the door, but my perspective has changed. Trust has been redefined. Everything is fine, it is just that the foundation of the relationship has been changed. I felt quite hurt at the time, but it was merely a flesh wound, and I won’t let that happen again. At least I say that, but odds are I’ll forget that and I’ll be as vulnerable as ever before too long.

In contrast, thankfully, we’ve been meeting and otherwise making contact with people who’ve been enjoying our photos and commentary here at Fresh New Day. We set out a few weeks ago, and we’ve met other travellers along the way, and they’ve tied up at our wharf and we’re now working together to see what happens – to find out what happens next.

One relationship feels exciting and uplifting, and I can’t wait to do more; and one feels edgy in a none-too-pleasant, fragile kind of way, and I’m hesitant to engage more.

I wondered about these sets of situations. I’m inclined to think that what happens on the main stage also happens off-stage. In other words – what we do in life is a reflection of our inner mechanisms. Sometimes I’ve tied up at my own wharf and things have been good. Getting better all the time. In other ways or at other times I might’ve found I’ve let things slip and my self-trust has needed some re-negotiation. Do we negotiate our own trust rules with ourselves? I believe so. Is this a work in progress? Mama! It’s perhaps the work, and it’s always in progress.

I like it (me) best when I trust my judgement and actions. One of our affirmations (well, it would be an affirmation if we were that organised, but in truth it’s just something we say to each other often) is, “We make good decisions.” We trust our instincts and our judgements more and more. When we tie up to our own wharf we grow in the trust in ourselves. It’s getting better all the time.

Manifesto
04. Every day is an opportunity to cultivate the promise of the future.
13. Every day be better than you were the day before.
23. Every day retain your personal power. It belongs to you. No one else.
