111 – Retail in the Raw

There’s been open air markets here in Wellington probably since the first humans arrived. More recently – in the last couple of years – as Waitangi Park has been completed, we’ve suddenly cozied right up close to the concept of markets and have started to make them something of a Sunday morning institution. It’s great being able to meet the producers, and over time watch their kids grow, fall in love, and before you know it, the next generation is busy engaging with the customers. There’s something authentic about buying from the producer without the intervention of the supermarket sizing people – I can pick out exactly the quantity I want.

I really like the variety of crops – fruit and vegetables that are not commonly available in the supermarkets – and of course, fresh, seasonal, and crazy delicious.

Manifesto
29. Every day eat, drink, rest, work, exercise, play, love, create for your own good. And the good of others.
30. Every day use all your senses. Touch. Smell. Taste. Hear. See.
42. Every day celebrate. Who you are. What you have achieved. Things that matter to you.

Ooh that asparagus looks good! I absolutely love going to markets, the food is so much fresher and tastes much better too :)

Spoiled for choice – it’s all a bit overwhelming. I like the fish straight off the boats best.
