129 – What do you say?

Partings. We do it every day. Walk out the door. Hang up the phone. Go upstairs. Downstairs. In the next room. Babies will cry when their mother walks away and out the room. As we get older we manage to conceal the pain, but I think if we look to ourselves there is still that part of us that grieves from a departure, even a simple and small departure.

There are no simple and small departures.

In reality every departure is the last and final departure. Sometimes when we part we’ll see each other again. But we both will have changed. Perhaps in a small way, but changed nevertheless. Babies are right to cry. Their mother, of that moment, has gone forever. Other times we’ll not see each other again. Things change – good and bad.

So, what do you say, what should you say, when you part from someone you love; and you know, and they know, the departure is neither simple nor small?
