131 – Jandal passion

There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart … pursue those. -– Unknown

People will collect anything and everything – stamps, teaspoons, stones, shells, art, antiques, books, fabric, furniture, china, postcards, cars, maps, flags, jewellery, teddy bears, dolls, Silvanian families, pinball machines, wrestling cards … the list could go on and on.

Then there is the jandal collection you decide to display on the wire fence in front of your home. Along the Foxton Straights (located in the central part of the North Island of New Zealand), for everyone to see as they drive past, is just such a collection. The woman behind this jandal fence is a “self-confessed jandal freak” and she wears this particular form of footwear all year round.

When I stopped to take this photo I didn’t realise I could have gone to this woman’s letter box (which by the way is covered in brightly coloured pairs of children’s jandals) to get some plastic ties so I could add my own pair of jandals to her collection.

I love seeing passion in action like this. Collectors and collections are so interesting.

Marica I love this. Read ‘The Volcano Lover’ by Susan Sontag for thoughts on collectors.

Have bought the book Cathy. I think it will need to be passed on to Zofia once I’m finished. Thanks for the suggestion. Hope all is well with you. I really miss you. Love M xo
