134 – Fish of the Day

I kept a marine aquarium for many years. I never kept crayfish – rock lobsters – like the one here – I suspect they’d be a handful to deal with. This tank is located in a mall, near the movie theatre, and I guess the inhabitants are subjected to a daily stream of fascinated or bored people staring at them.

I found my marine aquarium was much more interesting than the previous tropical and cold fresh water fish. I never really figured out why, I put it down to being used to seeing the pet shop type fish side, whereas the marine species are usually viewed from above. The marine tank was very much alive, and even the water had properties of ‘life-ness’ or ‘activeness’ that fresh water doesn’t have.

I kind of miss having a marine aquarium, but I don’t miss the work involved. A season pass to the aquarium (if Wellington ever gets one) will probably be sufficient.

48. Every day there are things you can’t change. You can change the way you think about them and deal with them.
