261 – Hump Day

Winter did a bit of a test drive today – a cold southerly, something of a beginner to ease us in to the next few months, but nippy all the same. This, a most Wellington of Wellington shots – Lambton Quay, everyone’s heading home on a wet and windy Wednesday evening. Except for a few hardy souls, no-one wants to walk outside the shelter of the verandahs. Me? I love it.

To me there’s something great about being able to stride down the pavement with few other people in the way, rain on my face, and wind whistling around my ears. I love the sense of freedom and the fragrance of the fresh air blended with the city streets. The lights, the sounds – a complete sensory experience enhanced by the weather. People always seem afraid of a few drops of rain. I don’t understand.

Is it weird that I am sitting here in London with the summer sun streaming through the window and I am thinking about how wonderful that scene in the photo looks! I am remembering how much I miss that and I am looking forward to coming home to that at some point! Wellington is great rain or shine I say!
