Fairy tales

I love stories.

Give me a good story and I’m gone – lost in the pages or the narrative until it’s good and done.

I’ve been known to sit in the car for 10 minutes after I’ve arrived waiting for the story to end.

My new year’s resolution for 2014 (made in early December 2013) is that this is to be my year of art. As part of this I’ve enrolled in a programme to learn to illustrate fairy tales.

Thora the Shieldmaiden shivered in the half light of a forest clearing. A wolf howled. “Come on, Wylfen, my steel is singing for you.”

This is my first effort. I like my work when I start something new – a new technique or material. It’s always rough and tentative, I’m still a bit afraid of it. I like the kind of results that falls out of that fear. Better than the super glib look that comes later with enough practise.

The forest was made by Marica, who’d spent the afternoon collaborating without knowing it. That’s how we roll around here.

Manifesto
02. Every day is an opportunity for a new beginning.
09. Every day learn something new.
32. Every day have a laugh.
