Fear and loathing

Some days, some things, fill you with absolute revulsion. You know you don’t want to do it, but you do. It was everything you thought it would be, and maybe even more, but you did it and you got through. A little green around the gills, sure, but you got through.

I don’t know. Does it make you stronger?

I’m not sure about Friedrich Nietzsche and his idea, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”

Clearly the man had never taken much of a hit, or a substantial flesh wound for that matter.

So here’s to you, my friend, you who took a hit today, dealing with some vileness not of your own making, my congratulations. You might’ve taken the hit for your beliefs or because of who you are. You might be smelling of disinfectant, or aching in your muscles, head, or heart, or just dreading another day like this one – or all of the above – but you got here. Others didn’t. Wouldn’t. Couldn’t.

But you did.

We see you.

Love you.

25. Every day your light shines for others to see.
