No parking allowed

Walking back to the car after work, feeling the full force of Monday blowing on our spirits, when we caught up with a very dear friend from back in the day.

“How are things going?” we ask.

Our friend proceeds to tell us about her partner’s cancer diagnosis about a year ago, and how things were bad. Real bad. But that now the chemotherapy is about done, the surgery has been completed, and although their world has been turn way, way, upside down, the path back towards life and the living was being negotiated. Negotiated on new terms, granted, but negotiated never-the-less.

We wished our friend all the very best, and we parted in the ancient Wellington way – “Let’s meet for coffee.”

We walked on to the car feeling happy that the outcome of the medical intervention seems hopeful, but at the same time taking stock of ourselves.

It’s all too easy to feel the chilly winds of Monday breathing down your neck. It takes a bigger effort to get up and get on with moving forward. No parking allowed, not quarter given.

Be grateful for the things that Monday brings.
