The passengers are back

A few days in from the official start of the working year and more and more people are gradually returning to work.

We used to take one of the many buses that service Wellington city, but they were unreliable for us finishing work late in the day. You only have to stand in the winter rain waiting for a bus that was due 45 minutes ago a few times before thoughts about the joys of having a car begin to invade your mind.

It’s very normal for your workmates to have a fine selection of crazy bus stories. We were travelling home in a bus during a rainstorm. The windows kept fogging up. The driver [one of the crazy drivers] stopped the bus in the middle of the road, and wiped down the windows. When the windows were finally cleared, the driver turned around and glared at us, and shouted, “Would you all just STOP breathing?!”

All of the passengers sat in silence, just staring off in our own directions.

Manifesto
14. Every day the ordinary can be the extraordinary.
48. Every day there are things you can’t change. You can change the way you think about them and deal with them.
50. Every day has an ending.
