I go out to make sure the car was ready for the car ambulance to take it to the hospital. The sun was just starting to creep into driveway. The rain has given was to the frost and in the middle of all the chaos and frustration I’m struck by the beauty of the frost crystals. There’s nothing like a beautiful sight and sunlight to lift my spirits.

The car ambulance was late (stuck in traffic). I’m getting agitated and ring in to work. The ambulance arrives. I manage to convince the car into life and we load it up on the ambulance. We drive off into the morning. The change was amazing – just in this relatively straight forward set of actions I was starting to feel better. Less stressed. The frost was thawing.

The ambulance driver was friendly. The car hospital staff were their usual friendly selves. The car is in good hands (even though the day visit has grown into an overnighter). I headed off for work feeling pretty happy – later than I’d planned, but still getting there. Thanks to everyone along the way.

There is an immutable conflict at work in life and in business, a constant battle between peace and chaos. Neither can be mastered, but both can be influenced. How you go about that is the key to success. — Philip Knight

It’s been a weekend of work here. My Dad’s generation wouldn’t have recognised it as being work – there’s no sweat so there’s no work. Fortified with coffee and potato crisps I’ve spent the last couple of days building web sites for customers. Some tv wandered past – I didn’t watch. Some cds were played – I didn’t listen. So, where to from here? I climb into my head and wrestle code and negotiate with the web hosting people and juggle this and jungle that. And when I finally climb back out of create mode it’s time for hot coffee and real food. I’m tired and ready for a hot shower and a sleep. It might not be sweaty work, Dad, but it’s work nevertheless.

44. Every day remember how far you have come.
50. Every day has an ending.
