The plaque on the ground reads:

The inaugural Kiwiwalk was launched here by Sir Edmund Hillary 11 December 1987 to get more people more active outdoors.

I had never noticed this plaque before. I must have walked over it almost daily in recent years. I know I’ve stood beside it. I’ve probably even stood on it – and never noticed it – that is until today. I was standing where Sir Ed had once stood. I walk where Sir Ed once walked. This is a historic piece of Wellington that most of us aren’t aware of.

I enjoy walking only I don’t do enough of it. Instead I spend my time sitting here at my computer writing – or at least trying to work out what to write! Maybe if I walked more the thoughts would come more easily and so would the words.
