Weekends are often about trying to cross a few chores off the list. Cram in a movie. Catch up with whanau. Cook. Clean. Fix. Make. Repair. Tidy. Dump. Do. You know the story – you go back to work on Monday to recover from the weekend. I ran out of steam on Sunday afternoon, quite suddenly. Fine one moment, power nap the next. Hey, I don’t care these days, it’s called ‘paying attention to your body’.

I dropped off to sleep and it was one of those wonderful free dives into the ocean – deep, dark, endless.

I woke some time later beyond refreshed. I could recall the edge of a dream – the feeling rather than any specifics. I felt terrific – the feeling was as though I’d been away for a very long time – a very extended journey, and now I was back. Back, and feeling great about having been there and back.

I wondered about this – for me it’s a time when the fragrance of change is in the air. Autumn. Seasons. Flavours. I’m ready to come back – ready for the changes that are shaping up. It feels good. Great.

I know a number of you are on the road or are on journeys or are out of sight of land. You know who you are. It’s ok. It’ll work out fine. Come home, come back when you’re ready. Don’t rush it, there’s no need. Trust yourself. We love you. Look for the signs. Find the wings. The road awaits. It’s within. Your heart. Your dream.

Manifesto
02. Every day is an opportunity for a new beginning.
19. Every day make time for yourself.
36. Every day be still. Connect to your inner being. Listen and be guided by it.

Sunday morning -
Others sleeping.
Sun shining.
Washing machine humming – one load already out drying,
Many more to do.
Mama phones – plans are made for later.
Look around – the house needs to be tidied.
Look out the window – the garden needs to be worked on.
Suppressing an overwhelming desire to hop on a plane bound for London,
Need to hold my daughter in my arms,
it has been two and a half years
Such a long short time.
I want to …
I need to …
I have to …
I should …
What do I do?
I write …
words
put together to form
sentences,
paragraphs …
Balance
So illusive
Chasing an impossible dream?

Some days I wonder how we’re meant to do everything. By everything I mean all the things we decide in our heads, or others decide for us, that have to be done. We name these things and invariably we have clear logical reasons as to why they warrant us spending time on them. I do however wonder if the day will ever arrive where I’m not trying to juggle more things than I actually have the time available to complete. This is my ongoing challenge. It’s like my eyes are bigger than my belly.

Work versus routine household chores and maintenance versus daily cooking versus family versus friends versus having some fun versus pursuing my dreams and trying to make them come true versus taking care of myself versus having time out and holidays – and anything else that I may have forgotten to include.

Balance is what I aspire to, without giving anything up. I want it all, and more, because I don’t want to get towards the end of my life and have any regrets. I wonder if balance is achievable or is it merely a myth of our modern time?

Manifesto
21. Every day seek the support of others. You are not alone.
22. Every day refine, clarify and simplify.
23. Every day retain your personal power. It belongs to you. No one else.
