Our passions are the winds that propel our vessel. Our reason is the pilot that steers her. Without winds the vessel would not move and without a pilot she would be lost.
— Proverb
Windy Wellington lived up to its name yesterday and today. The gales were so strong they blew over our massive pots which are home to our olive trees. These are really big plants and the pots are incredibly heavy. I suppose in some ways the wind has helped us because we have been wondering how we were going to get the trees out to replant them without breaking the pots. Seeing the big cracks this evening I think this may no longer be an issue.
People tend to complain about the wind in wellington yet to me there is something exciting about it. I love its energy and its movement. In my mind the wind clears the air and blows away all the cobwebs, especially those within. When you walk in the wind all you can focus on is standing upright and moving forward. Nothing else matters. You feel invigorated and exhausted all at the same time. You feel alive!
Many of the challenges I am facing at the moment are like a strong gust of wind. I need to keep moving forwards and not let these things drag me backwards. I wouldn’t give in to a gust of wind no matter how much it tried to overpower me. There is fight in this old girl and I need to remember that. I have been known to cling on to lampposts (or anything else that was available to me) to stop the wind from throwing me around. I need to use this powerful energy wisely to help get me to where I want to go, instead of letting it control me.
