109 – Afternoon strawberry delight

“Would you like a strawberry,” asked a colleague. At the same time placing in front of me a punnet full of red luscious berries. Who could resist such a temptation?

“They’re only $5 for 2 punnets at the supermarket,” she said as I was in the process of admiring the berry I had selected before eating it.

“I bet they won’t be that price next week,” I thought. The closer we get to Christmas the price of such delights goes up and it isn’t exactly something you can stock up on while they are cheaper.

As my colleague continued to share the strawberries she had bought with others in our team comments began to be made on the size of the berries. They were huge. Some measured as long as 7 centimetres (2.8 inches) – yes, we did get out the ruler to measure them. These berries not only looked perfect, they tasted perfect too. What a wonderful afternoon treat.

One of the best things about summer is the fruit. My favourites are apricots, nectarines, peaches, plums, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Then off course there are all the melons. I particularly love watermelon.

Summer provides us with many gifts apart from the warmer weather. These gifts come in such wonderful colours, shapes, sizes, and textures.
