277 – Days of future past

This morning, after a strange and wonderful dream about being given gifts from a whale, my long anticipated steampunk etching press arrived. It seemed to take ages unpacking it, however it took only a few minutes to put it together – these best of past and present technologies. Now, time to put together my printmaking self and get back into printing again after a very long absence.

How often do we make the chance to re-explore some of the activities we enjoyed as kids? The physicality of our bodies slips away no matter what efforts we make to stay lithe and svelte. We become ‘adults’ and we play all sophisticated and grown up, and this generally means we find it hard to delight in the things we used to love. I think we should take the risk. If we can’t be surprised or delighted – at any age – is there any point any more? So, the question really is not so much what am I going to do with gift from the whale, or how much joy it gives me, the question is what will you do with yours?
