Starting out

We were talking last night about how we might change things in our lives. We often talk about how cool it would be to live lives free of every day encumbrances and instead be free to just be creative. It’s kind of crazy talk really, because next morning, we get up, and go to work – just like the rest of us. So, unless some kind of unprecedented miracle happens, we’ll just carry on working to pay the mortgage, to put food on the table, gas in the car, and clothes on our backs. It’d be cool to be free, but it isn’t very likely to happen any time soon.

What we can do is take every opportunity to take an action or make changes we believe will help steer us in the direction we want our lives to go in. We can take creative moments as they present themselves. We can reach out to others. We can take a step or two more for exercise.

Most mornings I take the paper up to our elderly neighbour. It has become something of a ritual for the start of the day. In the few extra steps up to the gate it’s a moment to gather my thoughts for the day. It’s not training for a marathon, but it’s more steps in the day. There are beautiful views – the sunrise colours and the early morning mists. I like the smells of the moss and leaves on the path. It’s sensuous and feels good. I like it.

Manifesto
06. Every day you make choices.
11. Every day do something for someone else.
19. Every day make time for yourself.
