Country mouse: city mouse

When I came to live in Wellington (aka the big city) I used to get Marica to drive everywhere. Well, mostly everywhere. It wasn’t the driving, it was the parking. I was from a small country town, and parking was never an issue. I either parked right outside the shop or … or whatever they were selling I really didn’t need right now. Or possibly ever.

Marica can park a car superbly. I’ve seen her park in a tiny space, and when we got out of the car, a small audience of guys burst into spontaneous applause. Impressive!

She lost no time in teaching me to park, and now I’m no slouch at parking a car too. I used to have a desk in my day job that overlooked a main street, and I got to watch lots of other drivers park their cars. Some people were highly skilled, and others made even my worst country mouse efforts seem terrific.

I was talking with one of my colleagues the other day, and she confessed that parking wasn’t one of her strengths. We laughed about our mutual horror stories, and I suggested we could work out a time for a few lessons. Now I know how, it’d be rude for me to not share the love.

Manifesto:
09. Every day learn something new.
21. Every day seek the support of others. You are not alone.
28. Every day you will be tested.
